TESLA DEVELOPING PLATFORM FOR ELECTRIC MICROCAR

Tesla

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced during the latest quarterly earnings call that the American automaker is now focusing on developing a new platform for small electric cars. The goal is to halve costs compared to the platform used for the Model 3 and Model Y.

According to Musk, the new vehicles will not only cost half as much as the cheapest current models, but they will also have higher production numbers combined than all other vehicles (Model S, 3, X, and Y) put together. However, it’s worth noting that similar announcements have been made in the past. Tesla had previously announced plans for an affordable small Tesla, but those plans were put on hold earlier this year due to the company’s current workload.

Tesla’s 2-for-1 goal

Now, a turnaround has come. Musk announced that the engineering design for the Cybertruck and the Semi (electric truck) is complete, and the company is currently working towards achieving a “2-for-1 goal.” The new platform is expected to be manufactured in half the time, at half the cost, and with only half the spatial capacity.

Details about battery size, range, performance, and charging speeds are not yet known, and neither is a release date for the next generation of Tesla vehicles. It seems like Tesla may have learned from past experiences.
