The Israeli technology company ElectReon, in cooperation with Stellantis and Iveco, has implemented its “Arena del Futuro” project and put it under the road. In the process, charging coils were installed under a section of motorway between Brescia and Milan, over a distance of around one kilometre. They are to enable inductive charging for electric vehicles of all kinds – from small vehicles to buses – while driving. According to ElectReon, the tests have been successfully completed. An electric Fiat 500e and an Iveco bus – also battery-electric – were used. For this purpose, the vehicles were equipped with a receiver that enables the absorption of electricity during the test drives. The entire test track is operated with a power of one megawatt (MW). In autumn 2020, the first declarations of intent between ElectReon and the Italian toll road operator Brelemi already took place. Since 2019, there have also been two test sections in Israel on which ElectReon has installed the inductive charging technology.
Data on the actual power consumption of the test vehicles has not yet been published.
