For years the FABULOS project, supported by the European Union’s „Horizon 2020“ research and innovation programme, has developed autonomous shuttle solutions. Starting in spring 2020, the company will test its first prototypes under real-live conditions in five European cities. The robot busses will be in small fleets of shuttles on the streets of Estonia, Finland, Greece, the Netherlands and Norway.
The goal of the project is to introduce tailored urban mobility alternatives to citizens and to improve the ease of transfers across public transportation networks. This can be achieved by cities providing cost-efficient, attractive and sustainable transport solutions. Innovation, sustainability and improved urban living are core values of the venture.
During a 50-day field trial period, the functionality, interoperability and security of the autonomous fleets will be assessed and evaluated by the cities and third-party procurers. It is expected that all prototypes will become commercially available as part of subsequent procurement. The project marks a milestone in the fields of public transportation, autonomous driving and sustainable mobility solutions.
