Over the past six months, aoty oversaw the writing of a master\u2019s thesis by a student at the Technical University of Darmstadt. Through this master\u2019s thesis project, Lucas Schlenker developed a structure that generates renewable energy while also providing charging stations for electric-powered vehicles. In German, the first letters of the words generating (E<\/strong>rzeugung), charging (L<\/strong>aden) and saving (S<\/strong>peichern) energy in this system (A<\/strong>nlage) come together to create the name ELSA. The energy generated comes from a solar panel. To ensure a constant supply of energy, the plan is for the system to also be connected to the energy grid.

\nThe focus in the conception of this project is to optimize available space for the photovoltaic cells and car-charging area. This way, the ELSA can integrate into its surroundings seamlessly and be feasible in a variety of environments. The given conditions vary accordingly. The master\u2019s thesis \u201cDecision Navigator for Electric Mobility\u201d (Entscheidungsnavigator Elektromobilit\u00e4t<\/em>) does a comprehensive analysis of this framework. As part of the project, crucial influences could be identified and a plan conceived in which it is possible to balance opportunities, requirements and available technology. The BELISA<\/em> project in Westonaria, South Africa was chosen as an example of how this system could be put to use.<\/p>\n

After defending his thesis to a council of professors via Zoom, Lukas received top marks for the work.<\/p>\n
