Meanwhile the registrations of petrol- and diesel-powered cars sharply declined.\n<\/div>\n<div>The amount of battery electric vehicles (BEV) registered in the EU alone increased by over 230%, equaling over 200,000 new registrations. This was heavily supported by Spain and Germany where registrations increased by 370% and 357% respectively.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Overall, this led to an increased market share of BEVs from 3.5% in Q2 2020 to 7.5% in Q2 2021. Nonetheless Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) are topping the list of alternatively powered vehicles with more than 540,000 new registrations, making up 19.3% of all newly registered vehicles.\n<\/div>\n<div>On the other hand, although the demand for diesel- and petrol-powered cars increased compared to last year, their market share sharply declined.\u00a0 From over 81% of new registrations being linked to either petrol or diesel cars in Q2 2020, down to just 62% in Q2 2021.
